The Bolivar Royal Corona delivers the most sophisticated flavours with a full spectrum of rich character. The 2019 production illustrates the better quality of the new generation of Habanos. Greater care in production, particularly in some of the new factories in Havana, is bringing the world better Cuban cigars all the time. Bolivar takes their inspiration from what we consider one of the golden ages for Cuban cigars, the late 1980s and early 1990s. This was a truly iconic period for Cuba and its world famous cigars. The Bolivar brand is not a big one in terms of sizes or sales, but it has a history of delivering glorious flavour which is why it’s easily one of my favourite brands.
The Beginning
The Bolivar Royal Corona has a golden-brown colorado-claro tone with no veins or blemishes. The fill is pure and the cigar had a firmness to the touch. What I loved was that although the cigar was strong and bold in flavour, it still offered a distinct creamy smoke. The draw was perfect and really started things off perfectly.
The Middle
I’m getting bathed in flavours of sweet cedar, cream and vanilla with a long finish. The flavours really do stay in the mouth and you can just keep laying them on with every draw. Slight nutiness with the previous flavours hit you. This is very special.
The End
It feels such a shame for this cigar to end and the last part gives you all the Bolivar flavours in the most intense fashion, You only need the smallest of draws from the cigar to stop it from overheating, even the smallest draw gives bold flavours that just keep on coming till there is nothing left to smoke. The urge to light up another instantly is strong but a Bolivar Belicosos Finos is calling my name from the humidor.
Burn
The initial lighting and toasting was all that was needed with the Bolivar Royal Corona, I could have let it sit for a while without relighting but there was no need as this cigar deserved all my attention.
Draw
Upon lighting the cigar that ample fill gave a slight resistance to the draw but this opened up very quickly, the remainder of the cigar was a pleasure to deal with.
Overall
This cigar was an intense and powerful reminder of how great a full-bodied Cuban cigar can be. The strength was the perfect digestif after a large meal and gave me everything I could ever want and so much more from a cigar. I loved every moment of this smoking session.

What alcoholic drink would I pair it with? Plantation Isle of Fiji Rum (70cl, 40%) https://www.havanahouse.co.uk/product/plantation-isle-of-fiji-rum-70cl-40/
What soft drink would I pair it with? a perfectly chilled bottle of Mexican made Coca Cola
Would I smoke this again? The Bolivar Royal Corona is easily in my top 5 favourite cigars. It really has everything you would want in a cigar. I could spend hours reading about Simón Bolívar as I smoke one too.
